Name Change of an Adult in Georgia
Please note that changing of the wife's name to maiden name is included as part of all divorce packages. This section only pertains to name changes that are done in court proceedings not connected to any CURRENT divorce proceeding that I might be handling for you.
There are many reasons for an adult to decide to legally change their name. Maybe you just never liked you legal name and finally want to be rid of it once and for all. Or maybe you decided to keep your former spouses name while the kids were young to avoid confusion and now that they are grown would like to return to your maiden name or even another name. Whatever the reason, as long as it is not to defraud someone or avoid debts, I can help you change your name legally and quickly.
Normally the whole process takes approximately 30 days after we file the paperwork with the court. Once the final decree is received, I will also help you get a new birth certificate if you were born in Georgia. I will also give you a list of names and addresses of places that you will need to notify of your new name.
Please keep in mind that you may also need to consider revising your will and other life planniing documents after you legally change your name. I can help you with these documents and will offer you a twenty percent discount on the Life Planning Package if you do it within 30 days of legally changing your name.
